An extensive tiling project – completed by G F Holding Tiling Ltd using a Mapei preparation and fixing system – features at Novotel Liverpool Paddington Village. Totalling over 2,000 square metres, the installation spans the main reception area and rest rooms at the iconic hotel and includes a range of porcelain tile designs.
A striking building with a bronze-toned exterior, the Novotel Liverpool Paddington Village is the highest hotel in Liverpool and Novotel’s first UK location to offer ‘long-stay’ apartment-style accommodation. It is also the first in the region with a fully accessible room for wheelchair users. Forming part of a new £1bn local development within the city’s bustling Knowledge Quarter, the hotel was designed by Ryder Architecture, with project managers Faithful+Gould, and constructed by Morgan Sindall Construction. It is also the first hotel in the UK to feature the brand’s new global design concept by international design and architecture studio, the Sundukovy Sisters.
The building spans 16-storeys and includes 221 bedrooms; it is owned by Liverpool City Council, franchised by Novotel-brand owner, Accor, and managed by Legacy Hotels & Resorts on the council’s behalf.
G F Holding Tiling Ltd’s installation – within the reception area, and ground, first and second floor rest rooms – was completed with Mapei preparation products, adhesives and grout. The specification included Latexplan Trade smoothing compound – a protein-free, low odour leveller with high compressive strength which was used to level the existing screed – and anti-fracture membrane, Mapetex, which was bonded with Keraquick S1 – a quick-setting, very low VOC deformable cementitious adhesive – and mixed with Latex Plus, an admixture which increases flexibility to S2 classification. Tiles were installed with Keraflex Maxi S1 – a deformable standard setting cementitious adhesive which provided benefits including an extended open time. The installation was completed with Ultracolor Plus grout – an anti-efflorescence, quick-setting and drying polymer-modified formulation which features water-repellent DropEffect® and mould-resistant BioBlock® technologies.

I absolutely love my bathroom now that it has been partially re-built where the timbers had rotted inside the wall, then tiled with a new shower, vanity and toilet installed.
